I was looking forward to this,
A very new modern stadium, good atmosphere...errrr
We started of like runaway train and there was nothing to stop us, 1-0 up inside 2 mins and it could have been 3 before they scored after 20 mins, a strange looking goal that seemed to travel accross goal hit far post and rolled back and over, not to worry, slight blip !! Houghton and Wade (Ryan) were pulling Leigh all over the place and they hadnt got a clue, Whitey and Akkers were dealing with everything they had. THEN after about 30 mins it all stopped, there was nothing. Credit to Leigh they started passing a bit more and got into the game and half time couldnt come soon enough.
The second half can be best described as a shambles !! we were absolutely woeful. Headless chickens, Rabbits caught in the lights , however you want to describe it we were POOR !!.
Leigh were to strong and passed the ball, like we have done in the past weeks and in reply we had nothing, I wont pick a individual, but they all went missing. Everytime Leigh came forward they looked like scoring Ryan made some excellent saves and if you had to pick a MoM it would have to be him, however being on the pitch for the last 30 mins was a bonus as he should surely have got a red. The Ref deciding that he was not the last man as he pulled down the striker as he was bearing down on goal. True Whitey, Akkers and Foster were all on the pitch in the vacinity but he should have walked. 2 more goals and the game was well and truly over. The fourth well hard to belive my eyes when that went in, From my special vantage point right behind the line of the ball, It was going at least 3 foot wide as it passed Ryan on its way out for a goalkick and it incredibly bent round and sneaked in off the far post and that was that.
There has been reports off the ref been poor, he was no worse than some we have seen. Yes there was some strange decisions go against us but also the Ryan incident balances things up.
As for the stadium, lovely all nice and new, All the seats sparkling in the early winters sun and you could say they will stay that way because once you have been there is no incentive, however great to go again. The stewards and the whole set up would think they were catering for Premiership football and not in reality 200 souls. No wonder no one from Leigh goes watching if they are subject to that kind of strictness. Its NON LEAGUE for gods sake, where people like to mix and stand in a favoured spot.
Ok you cant open all the ground, costs wouldnt allow but surely you can cater for about 50 fans who want to stand behind the goal !! The reply you cant because we are not stewarding it.
(You could have kept them in the corner they would have been happy !!!Christ how many stewards do you need. There were two sat down all the game doing bugger all. There were 3 others on show who made ****** look reasonable (Joke!!). There was a mother and child who were obviously bored came down to the far corner to stretch their legs and they were told, yes TOLD to get back in their seats and sit down, Come on I ask you !!! Is that really on, What are they going to do, cause a riot !! shocking !!! The stadium has a NO smoking policy, nothing wrong with that at all but when the supporters asked could they go outside for a smoke at half time, YES...but you wont be allowed back in !! Unbelivable. One supporter had a smoke in the corner, some one spied him and the stewards were on the warpath looking out for him, the way they went about it anyone would have thought he was responsible for masss murder
All in all a shocking day, result and attitude of the stewards, who are employed I suggest by Leigh FC. To all their directors and staff who travel to away matches please take in what you see and try to implement some of it because the way you are going you will drive every bugger away.
