Just reading thru' this weeks Champion newspaper, and a couple of things caught my attention. 1) The proposed redevelopment of Blaguegate All-Weather Pitches.... A 'spokeswomen' said this;a 'spokesman' said that; a 'spokesperson' said the other. Now this 'project has allegedly been on the go for 6 years, and still we have no definate plans. Can you envisage a whole department of people sat in an office - debating; and planning; and deplanning; and replanning;and outsourcing; and resourcing for a whole 6 years and still no further forward. They must be bored to tears. Then I got to thinking - if there is generally bad news the comments are from nameless people - 'spokeswoman/spokesperson/spokesman' Whereas later in the newspaper, there are details of funding been aquired for a different project and the quotes are Councillor ...............said this/Councillor ................said that/Councillor.................said the other. 2) And onto another 'spokesperson' satement - "we have spent an awful lot of money on the Blaguegate changing rooms. That may be the case, but in the overall scheme of things, the actual amount of money spent on 'leisure' in general over the last 20 years in Skem, is a very poor percentage. In closing, I doubt very much that Blaguegate 'All-Weather' will progress very much farther in the next 6 years. What do you think

I think it's a crying shame that this facility was allowed to fall into the state it has,it's been getting worse by the year.Even though I don't live in Skem now I feel that much more can be done to improve the place. They already have the land and there is no reason why they can't turn it into a place like the Soccerdome in Wigan for example. I'm not saying that they have to have indoor pitches like at Wigan, but there's no reason why they can't have several 5 a side astroturf pitches and organise a few midweek leagues and stuff. Something has to be done as the place is an eyesore. The old cinder pitches were rendered useless years ago,a far cry from when they first opened and myself and Mr Panther played in the Comrades side that won the opening tournament(remember that Kev?),when you had the likes of the Mayor presenting the trophies....do they still have a Mayor for Skem by the way?

The Blaguegate "sports" field has been an eye-sore for donkeys years and the council who WILL not spend money on entertainment in Skem full stop As Butler says planning re planning, just get on with the bloody thing. The area is there for a sports facility...USE IT ..... or are they waiting for Tescos to come along and build on it...... They will get their money to fill the fat cats pay packet and they can all go on about how good Skem is To quote from the advertiser "its got lots of green fields and beautiful countryside" Give the people of Skem something to do !!!!!!!!!!!
As for Mr wilko's comments Yes I do remember the opening Tournement, which WE won, I think we played Tanhouse in the Final, went to pens and guess who scored the decider yes yours truly !!!!
I think !!!!!!

The thing that gets me....................... if there is good news, there are comments from clearly defined names. If there is bad/no news, the comment is from a 'spokesperson' They may as well name them as 'Pinnochio' And how the heck is a covenant affected? It has been a sports area, would still be a sports area if they hadn't grossly neglected, and could still be a sports area with money spent on it. Excuses, excuses, excuses.................and the problem goes away!!!

I think !!!!!! Would loved to have seen you kicking a laced up ball ;D ;D Seriously, Two years ago the Advertiser & the Champion said "that funding was in place to restore the astro turf pitch & neighbouring pitches to their former glory" My little boy plays for a Skelmersdale under 8's team & now its the winter months you try get an indoor venue............(lucky for us we have)....but there are lots of kids teams i know of who can't train midweek cos of lack of facilities.......big boys teams as well are struggling................WHY? ??........... ALL THAT SPACE & no investment from anyone for years when there is a need for it stinks a mile high. Who ever is holding on to that money.....get it bloody spent & soon because Skelmersdale believe it or not has some very very good sportsmen & women but they have to go elsewhere to train & that is a crying shame for a town of this size. And yes they maybe outside in the winter months but because its closer its cheaper.....not rocket science.
