From the Radcliffe Boro website
SKELMERSDALE REVIEW
The 'Boro' returned from 'Stormy Corner' with an emphatic and fully deserved win. Goals from Adam Roscoe (a hat trick)(pictured) and Ben Wharton (his eighth in consecutive games) saw the 'Boro' complete a 4-0 demolition of play-off hopefuls Skelmersdale United. The 'Boro' could have added more but the crossbar stopped Eddie Stanford and Ben Wharton from adding to the score whilst a terrific save from the home keeper stopped Roscoe from completing his hat trick in the first half. The 'Boro' were determined not to get off to a slow start and started as they finished on Saturday, Rosoce and Wharton were causing all sorts of problems for the home defence who found it difficult to cope and it was Roscoe who opened the scoring with a fine header and it was that man again who doubled the score minutes later. Roscoe could have completed his hat-trick but was denied by an excellent save, such was the dominance of the away side keeper Lloyd did not have a full blooded save to make, "The lads certainly took on board what we stressed before the game and from the moment the game started we were on the front foot and thoroughly deserved our 2-0 lead at half time, we played some excellent football and clinically took our chances. Our work rate and discipline were first class." said the clubs Director of Football Gerry Luczka.
The second half saw the home side make three changes but despite having their fair share of the ball, Lloyd still had little to do, It was the 'Boro' still causing the problems and Stanford hit the bar for the 'Boro', but the third goal was not long in coming with a well taken goal from Wharton to make it 3-0. The home side continued to press forward and had a shot that hit the bar, they were then awarded a very soft penalty by the referee to the dismay of players and supporters alike, the resulting penalty providing justice with it hitting the upright. The 'Boro' had a further opportunity to score again this time Wharton broke away and hit the bar, before Roscoe did complete his hat-trick with a fine finish to make it 4-0. The final whistle brought to an end a deserved and convincing performance by the away side against a club many feel will gain promotion, "We were extremely organised and limited the home side to very little sight of our goal, the penalty was a poor decision but we still managed to keep a clean sheet and we defended excellently. Our front two were a handful and overall I doubt anyone can say we did not deserve it, the lads put in a terrific shift. The quality of our play at times was first class and we need to build on this performance." Luczka added, "Make no mistake Skelmersdale are a fine side and their record proves that, which makes the result even more satisfying, Tommy (Lawson) and his side will be there in the play-offs again and we need to match the type of consistency they have shown as we develop as a team, we wish them well for the rest of the season."
