Match Report v Rossendale
Skelmersdale United 3 V 0 Rossendale United Tues 13th Oct 2009 Unibond League Presidents Cup With six players making their debuts for Rossendale it was always going to be a testing evening against one of the leagues more fancied teams and the task was made more difficult in the 30th minute when Chris Lawton was sent off for a second bookable offence. Undaunted by the facts Rossendale began strongly and won two early corners which unfortunately led to nothing. With the Skelmersdale defence using the offside trap as often as they could using keeper McMahon as a sweeper Rossendale came close to opening the scoring on more than one occasion as Watson broke clear only to be beaten to the ball by McMahon. At the other end the Skelmersdale forwards were looking very lively and the Dale defence had to be on their toes to keep them out. The game was then spoiled as a spectacle with the sending off of Lawton and from then on Skelmersdale took full advantage of their extra man and opened their account in the 42nd minute when Wade beat Harris in the Rossendale goal with a shot that somehow squirmed under his body. To their credit Rossendale never gave up trying but the extra man was too much of an advantage to Skelmersdale and late goals from Armstrong and Woolcott and the Rossendale side tired put paid to their chances of winning the President's cup for this season. Rossendale Team Bobby Harris, Keith Wedge, Chris Lawton, Alex Mallion, Tom Clarkson, Kane Bentley, Kevin Durcan, Joe Anderson, Kris Atkinson, Gordon Watson, Jack Brierley Substitutes Alex Leke (for Watson), Jason Hart (not used), Chris Brooks (for Anderson), Sean Pearson (for Bentley), Danny Thomas (not used) Attendance 116
