Match report from Trafford
Nine-man Trafford battled gamely at wind swept Skelmersdale but three goals in the last 12 minutes secured the points for the Merseysiders. Playing with the wind at their backs, Skem were the dominant force in the opening stages and after 11 minutes a Martin Crowder free kick was well held by Tom Read. Greg Hall headed wide in Trafford's first meaningful attack of the game but the home side took the lead in the 29th minute when Michael White headed in from close range at the back post. Seconds before the interval Kevin Towey should have doubled Skem's lead when he headed Paul Woolcott's cross wide from just six yards with the goal at his mercy. In the 56th minute Tom Read produced a magnificent save to thwart Woolcott and then saved bravely at the feet of Mark Houghton as the home side remained on top.
Trafford's hopes received a major setback in the 65th minute when Kyle Harrop was dismissed for a two footed challenge but the Manchester outfit bravely pushed forward and Scott Barlow broke through but was denied by Ryan McMahon. Trafford's plight worsened even further in the 72nd minute when left back Paul Ashton was harshly sent off for what was deemed to be a second cautionable offence but amazingly the nine men pressed forward once more and Greg Hall skewed the ball wide after a low cross by Barlow. Skem doubled their lead in the 78th minute when Mark Houghton sidefooted home following a neat four man move and two minutes later Ryan Wade slotted in the third. Things could have been even worse for Trafford when Nia Bayunu was harshly adjudged to have tripped Kevin Towey and Tom Read produced another great save form white's spot kick. Skem were now completely in control and after Towey struck the upright, Mark Houghton completed the scoring when he converted a cross from the left.
